Expeditions

Every year WBA organizes scientific expeditions in the biodiversity hotspots of Europe and in the world, supporting the researches of our members by a partial reimbursement of expenses, provided by the internal Regulation of the Association. In order to access these grants, it is necessary to request them in advance by following the dedicated forms (Regolamento accesso sovvenzioni per missione – Allegato “A”).

The members involved are invited to cite WBA as supporting body, in the publications in which the results of the investigations are reported.

Since 2004 to date many naturalistic expeditions have been organized by WBA members in all Italian territory (Sicily, Sardinia, Cilento, Alps and Prealps, Arcipelago Toscano, ecc.). Some of these investigations are structured in specific research project in collaboration with bodies and Associations active on the sector of biodiversity conservation.

Since 2005, the WBA supports the researches made using particular collecting techniques, for the study of the Greek endogean fauna. The expeditions of our members Pier Mauro Giachino and Dante Vailati permitted the discovering of hundreds of species new to science.

In order to investigate the forests controller by Otonga Foundation (Otonga, Otokiki and Otoyacu) in the Western Andes, in the North, to the borders with Colombia, and in the Ecuadorian Amazon (Province of Pastaza), our members Cesare Bellò, Giuseppe Osella and Giovanni Onore organized several research campaigns.

After the profitable expedition of 2008, the researches continued in Western Australia (Pilbara and Nullarbor) and in Southern Australia, made by our members Mauro Daccordi and Beatrice Sambugar.
